Sketchbook Assignment 12.2.2011

1st and 3rd Period - Identify an object that relates to your identity. Create an artwork/sketch that uses the image of that object as the single focus of your drawing. Media is of your choice, color is optional.
On the back of your sketch include a brief summary of why you chose that particular object and how it relates to you.

Sketchbook and Blog Entry 10.21.2011

1st Period - Create a detailed pencil study of a fancy, unique or artistic head decoration for a person of your choice. This could be a head dress, hat, helmet or anything else you can think of.

Blog Entry - Find three examples of unique or interesting head decorations.

3rd Period - Create a detailed pencil study of your eyebrows and one ear. You will want to use a mirror for this of course.

Blog Entry - Find three examples of unique or interesting portraits. Please include artist name, title of work, medium and dimensions.

Sketchbook 10.3.2011

1st Period - Draw a piece of furniture in your house. This can be in color or black and white. Sit in an area and observe the lines and shapes of the piece. Include some of the area around the piece and observe the textures, value changes, wood grain, carpet or other interesting details you notice and include them in this study.
3rd Period - Divide the page into three areas with a ruler. Create a very involved contour drawing with pen of a small object of your choice and put it on one of these areas. Next, in another area, draw the same object with pencil using good shading and proper proportions. For the last area, distort or abstract the same object using three values or colors.

1st Period - Your Choice - Create a drawing that utilizes several of your strongest drawing skills. Be creative and challenge yourself. Color is optional.
3rd Period - Choose a portion of a magazine or newspaper picture and glue it onto one of your sketchbook pages. Create a compositon that incorporates that picture into a story. You may use more than one magazine or newspaper image BUT the artwork should mainly be made of your added drawings. Color is optional, yet value changes are required.

Sketch Assignment and Blog Entry for September 9, 2011

First Period - Sketch assignment - detailed drawing of one of your sculptural pieces of surface decoration you will be using on your cake design. Color is required.
Blog entry - find three examples of cakes you find interesting and creative.
Third Period - Sketch assignment - value study of a salt and pepper shaker with strong light source. Pencil or charcoal.
Blog entry - find three examples of charcoal drawings that emphasize strong value changes.

Sketchbook Assignment for September 2

Sketchbook Assignment
Take another look at the fantastic video below put together by artist Danny Gregory.
Draw the food and utensils that are in front of you at one of your meals over the weekend. Pencil and strong value changes are the only requirements. Use of pen or color is optional.
1st hour blog entry: Baroque and Rococo periods in art history.
Find two examples of art work from each period. Sculpture, furniture, painting, drawing etc.
Describe each period. What is the time frame? What are some major characteristics of the period?
3rd hour blog entry: three examples of interesting drawing styles.
Each one must be different. Please include artist name, title, size and medium. Website is optional.
